SC clips RedHawks in 11 innings

It took 11 innings and 10 pitchers Tuesday before the outcome was decided in the Bat Pats 6-5 win over visiting Martin Methodist College. That outcome came when Luis Zeledon’s hard smash was misplayed by the RedHawks second baseman allowing Juan Moriel to score the winning run.

It appeared that the game would end in regulation as Luther Bramblett’s squad took a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning. But the RedHawks (24-19), who received votes for the top 25 in the latest NAIA poll, plated three unearned runs in the inning to tie the game.

The Bat Pats’ 11th inning started with Moriel being hit by a pitch and moving to second on a Andrew Garcia sacrifice bunt. Charlie Pal was walked intentionally leading to the error on Zeledon’s grounder.

“It is a good win for us. They have been near the top 25 all year and we have beaten then two out of three games,” said Bramblett whose team improved to 29-18.

St. Catharine mustered just five hits but took advantage of 13 RedHawks walks. Designated hitter Tyler Mischel had two of those hits.  Moriel walked twice and score two runs.

Senior reliever Brad Krohman (1-1) pitched the 11th inning to pick up the victory. Matt Pavelich started and allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Scott Clements was touched for three unearned runs in an inning and a third. Cory Klinger (one inning) and Matt Wagner (2 2/3 innings) pitched scoreless ball in relief.
