Patriot men and women place fourth in conference golf

            For the second consecutive year, St. Catharine hosted the Mid-South Conference Golf Championship at Bardstown Country Club ay Maywood. And again the tournament was sponsored by Lee’s Famous Recipe of Bardstown.

            The tournament was contested over two days in late April and both of Joan Rizer’s Patriot teams finished in fourth place. The men had eight conference teams competing while the women had six.

            Individually, Nick Patterson finished as the top Patriot as the junior from Harrodsburg, Ky. finished 13th in the field of 45 golfers. Patterson had a 54-hole total of 239 (76-80-83).

            The Patriot men compiled a score of 976 which put them seven shots ahead of fifth place Georgetown. The University of the Cumberlands won the tournament with a 910. In second place was Lindsey Wilson (927) followed by Campbellsville (950).

            The St. Catharine women were led by Kelsey Lyvers who finished 17th in the field of 42. The sophomore from Bardstown had a 36-hole total of 182 (89-93). The Patriots carded a two-day total of 787.

            Cumberlands won the team title with a 644 followed by Lindsey Wilson (687) and Campbellsville (691).

            In post season awards Patterson and Adam Nolte were named Honorable Mention All-Mid-South Conference and Michael Smith made the Academic All-Conference team. On the women’s Academic All-Conference team the Patriots placed five players including Jessica Shelton, Julie Clark, Courtney True, Ashley Pugh and Catharine Boone.
