Patriots Defeat Spalding on the Road

The Patriot Women's Soccer team got a tough win on the road today against Spalding University.  The win is their second in a row and raises their record on the season to 2-1-1.

The Patriots were a bit slow out of the box today, giving up a goal on a long shot just 5 minutes into the game.  Once down by 1, they came alive and clamped the defense down, allowing only 4 more shots and just 2 on goal the rest of the game.  The Patriots attacked relentlessly as the game wore on.  They managed 21 total shots with 11 on goal for the day.

31 minutes in, Spalding committed a foul in the box and Paola Martinez evened the score at one after slotting home the resultant penalty kick.  In the 43rd minute, Mallory Arneson found Kelsey Pendleton just inside the box for a goal and a 2-1 lead just before half-time.

The second half was much the same, with St. Catharine controlling the tempo and Spalding counter-attacking.  Paige Long pushed home a goal off a cross from Chelsey Landrum in the 54th minute to give St. Catharine a 3-1 lead and end the scoring.  Spalding had one more good chance, and St. Catharine took 2 shots late that were save by the Spalding Goalkeeper before time expired.

Next up for the Patriots, a road trip to Nashville to face Trevecca Nazarene University this Friday at 8pm ET.
