Bat Pats Sweep Weekend By Winning Six

The St. Catharine College Baseball Team righted the ship after losing their first three games of the year, with a six game home weekend series sweep against Robert Morris College - Springfield and University of Miami - Middletown. The Patriots (6-3) rode the arms of their staff, allowing just 6 earned runs all weekend. "Our guys threw well," noted Bat Pat Head Man Luther Bramblett. "They were around the zone all weekend and made good pitches to get out of jams. They kept us in every game and gave our struggling offense time to produce enough runs to win."

Game 1: SCC 2 - Robert Morris-Springfield 1

Travis Adams (1-1) tossed a complete game, allowing an unearned run in the first inning, while scattering 5 hits. He had 7 K's and only 1 free pass. The Patriots scored a run in the bottom of the first on a Kaleb Henry RBI double. Henry went 2-3 on the day and scored the winning run on a RBI single by Adam Blair. Blair went 2-2 with a stolen base as well. Chris Smith was 2-2 with a run and a SB. Jacob Brown also doubled for the Pats.

Game 2: SCC 5 - Robert Morris-Springfield 4

Adam Gillcrist (1-0) picked up the win in relief after Patriot Josh Landers stole third and scored on a wild pitch in a come from behind walk off win. Nick Holmes tossed the first 6 innings, allowing 4 runs, 1 earned on 4 hits. He had 6 K's on the day. Brian Jones was 2-3 with 2 runs and Ryan Mangione added a 2-3 day as well. Kaleb Henry went 2-2 with two runs and Adam Blair added a 2-RBI single to tie the game in the 6th inning.

Game 3: SCC 9 - Robert Morris-Springfield 2

Joel Brockman (1-1) picked up his first win as a Patriot, tossing 5.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs in the 2nd and scattered 4 hits. Jeff Strong and Lee Thompson both finished out the game on the bump in relief. Adam Blair went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a double. Brian Jones added a RBI double. Ryan Mangione went 1-1 with a run and a RBI, while earning 3 walks.

Game 4: SCC 3 - Robert Morris-Springfield 1

Brian Jones (1-0) tossed 5 innings, allowing a fourth inning run with 9 K's. He surrendered just three hits. Tim Paxton threw a scoreless 6th and Brad Krohman earned the save with his 2 K performance. The Patriots scored 3 runs in the fourth when Brian Jones singled. Greg Tingle pinch ran for Jones and scored on wild pitch after being doubled to third by Kaleb Henry. Adam Blair doubled home Henry and Jacob Brown tripled home Blair. Brown had a 3-3 game and was the only Bat Pat with more than one hit.

Game 5: SCC 5 - Miami-Middletown 2

Tim Paxton (1-0) earned his first win of the year in relief of starter Morgan Jones. Paxton tossed 1.1 innings allowing no base runners, while punching out 2. Jones tossed the first 4.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and he walked 4 while striking out as many. Brad Krohman picked up his second save in as many games, tossing a perfect 7th. Justin Witt went 2-2 with 2 runs and 2 sacs. Adam Blair went 2-3 with a RBI and Philip Dean went 2-3 with a double and a swipe. Jacob Brown had a knock and scored 2 runs,

Game 6: SCC 5 - Miami-Middletown 0

Kyle Leja (1-0) tossed a gem in his first career appearance, going 6 innings, scattering 3 hits and striking out 10. The lefty tandem of Jeff Strong and Lee Thompson shared the 7th frame in relief. Philip Dean went 1-2 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and stole 4 bags. Josh Landers went 2-3 with a double and triple, scoring a run.

The Patriots return to action Tuesday when they host #18 Cumberland University for a single game at 2:00.
