Third time's a charm against IUS

Twice in the first week of the season the St. Catharine volleyball team played IU-Southeast. And both times the Patriots lost close matches to the Grenadiers. The third time was a charm, however, as St. Catharine won in straight sets.

The Patriots, 8-14, controlled each set as they never allowed the Grenadiers, 10-9, only led one time throughout the entire match, and that was just by one point. St. Catharine won 25-18, 25-16, 25-21.

“It was a great effort, a team effort,” said current interim coach John Rogers. “We played with a lot of enthusiasm and really supported each other.”

"We were ahead both times we played them earlier. We just had to remind them of the ned to finish it off this time," adde assistant coach Kristin Michael.

St. Catharine enjoyed one of their best nights at the net where they hit .316. Casey Stone led the way at .526 with 10 kills. Allie Southard and Rebecca Just also had 10 kills each and hit .391 and .296 respectively. Randa Murphy and Chelsea Wichman had 20 and 19 digs as they led an active Patriot defense.

St. Catharine returns to Mid-South Conference action Thursday with a match at Georgetown. The Tigers are ranked 13th nationally.
