Tigers Claw Patriots in Conference Volleyball

Georgetown College seemed to remember the last time they played St. Catharine when they lost the first set and battled throughout the match before claiming a 3-1 win. Things were different Thursday when the Tigers dominated from the outset in the 3-0 victory.

“They have a very good team and we just never got going,” said Patriot coach John  Rogers whose team fell 25-10, 25-17, 25-12.

Georgetown (19-2, 9-0), ranked 13th nationally hit .316 for the match while the Patriots hit a season low -.019. No Patriot had more than four kills and only two, Chelsea Wichman and Allie Southard, were on the positive side in hitting percentage.

After trailing badly throughout the first set, the Patriots regrouped for the second set in which they trailed just 8-7. But the Tigers whet on a 9-2 run to take control. In the third set the Tigers scored the first seven points and then, after the Patriots scored three unanswered points, they scored the next eight points to lead 15-3.

The Patriots are back in conference play Tuesday when they host Lindsey Wilson. St. Catharine is currently 2-7 in the conference and 8-15 overall and is in ninth place. Lindsey Wilson, who received votes for the top 25 in the latest poll, is tied for second in the MSC at 6-2 and holds a 16-8 overall record.
