Baseball Sweep Bears For Msc Lead

The St. Catharine College Baseball squad (12-9, 4-0 msc) swept host Pikeville College to open up MSC play in Pikeville, KY over the weekend. The Patriot offense awoke, scoring 57 runs in the four games, with only one game reaching the seventh inning. This was the first four games series the Patriots have swept since joining the Mid-South Conference last year.

Game 1 (21-2)

Travis Adams (3-1) tossed the first four innings in the 21-2 five inning affair. He allowed 3 hits and punched out 4. Matt Wagner tossed the final frame, allowing 2 unearned runs and striking out 3. Kaleb Henry led the offense with a 3-3 game, adding a double, 3 RBI's and scoring 3 runs. Philip Dean went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 6 RBI's. Daniel Bentley added a 2-3 day with a double, 2 runs and 2 RBI's. Both Chris Smith and Justin Witt both had 2 hit games as well.

Game 2 (9-2)

Nick Holmes (1-2) picked up his first win of the year, tossing 5 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 6. Tim Paxton tossed the final two frames, giving up a run on 3 hits and had 3 K's. Adam Blair led the offense with a 3-3 day, adding a double and RBI. Kaleb Henry had 2 knocks and scored a run. Ryan Mangione added a 2 RBI single. Josh Landers and Chris Smith both doubled and Jeremy Turpin added 3 runs and stole 3 bags.

Game 3 (14-3)

Joel Brockman (2-2) tossed the first 4 innings, surrendering 3 unearned runs and scattering 5 hits. Matt Wagner pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Jeremy Turpin led the attack with a 3-4 day with a homerun, double, 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Chris Smith went 2-4 with a double, 2 runs and 2 RBI's and both Kaleb Henry and Jacob Brown added 2 base knocks each and an RBI. Tyler Mischel added a 2 RBI single.

Game 4 (13-1)

Morgan Jones (1-0) picked up his first win of the year with a four inning outing, scattering 2 hits and allowing an unearned run. Brad Krohman tossed the final frame with 2 K's. Jacob Brown went 2-3 with 5 RBI's and scored 2 runs. Jeremy Turpin added 2 knocks with 3 runs and an RBI. Josh Landers also had 2 base hits with a run and RBI. Philip Dean tripled home a pair and scored twice and Daniel Bentley had a 2-4 day with an RBI.
