Baseball Takes Another Bite Out of the Bears

The Patriots took two more games from the Bears, this time the visiting Shawnee State University Bears from Portsmouth, OH, by the scores 8-3 and 5-4. SCC (14-9) are riding their second 6 game win streak of the season as they prepare for their upcoming weekend series against MSC rival University of the Cumberlands.

Game 1 (8-3)

Freshman Kyle Leja (3-0) continued his streak with a 5 inning outing, scattering 5 hits and allowing 3 runs, 2 earned. Tim Paxton tossed the final 2 frames to pick up the save, punching out 4 in the process. Both Jacob Brown and Ryan Mangione went 2-3 with 2 RBI doubles. The Patriots had 6 swipes during the game.

Game 2 (5-4)

Freshman Jacob Brown drove in fellow Anderson Countian Jeremy Turpin with a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brown went 1-2 with a run and that RBI. Josh Landers went 3-3 with a double and triple and added 3 RBI's. Ryan Mangione also doubled for the Bat Pats. Brad Krohman (1-0) picked up his first win of the year in relief, tossing the final 1.1 innings. He allowed a hit and had 2 K's. Tim Paxton tossed 2 thirds of an inning, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs. Lee Thompson pitched 2 thirds and had 2 K's, but walked 2 with both of them scoring. Adam Gillcrist tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless ball. He scattered 2 hits. Jeff Strong started and tossed 2 scoreless innings.

The Patriots are back in action Friday with a MSC double header with University of the Cumberlands at 1:00.
