Baseball Voted 6th in Pre-Season MSC PollNovember 12, 2012
The St. Catharine College Patriot Baseball Team was picked 6th in the MSC pre-season coaches poll. The Bat Pats received 56 points, just behind MSC Tournament runner-up Shawnee State University.
"What can you say," commented Patriot Head Coach Luther Bramblett. "We're in a great conference! Anyone below us and above us can win this thing. Pikeville has signed some quality kids and return a lot, Rio returns basically everyone, Wise returns their entire lineup; I really mean it - it's a great league. I feel like we are better than we were last year, but so is everyone else - all we can do is strap it on and compete."
After capturing its first Mid-South Conference regular season baseball title in 2012, Lindsey Wilson is projected to repeat in 2013, according to the MSC Preseason Coaches' Poll released today by conference officials. Lindsey Wilson -- who won the conference with a 17-4 mark last season -- received 99 voting points from the conference coaches and nine of the 11 first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
The 2012 MSC Tournament champions Georgetown College is second in balloting with 85 voting points and one of the two remaining first-place votes. Cumberland University -- who begins its first season in the MSC as a full member since 2001 -- is third in the preseason poll with 83 voting points and the final first-place vote.
Campbellsville University is predicted to finish fourth with 79 voting points followed by Shawnee State University with 57 voting points. St. Catharine is right on the Bears' heels with 56 voting points and University of the Cumberlands is seventh with 49 voting points.
Mid-South newcomer Bluefield College is eighth in the poll with 33 voting points while UVa.-Wise (29 voting points), University of Rio Grande (25) and University of Pikeville (10) complete the 11-team poll.
The 2013 MSC baseball season begins in early February with conference play beginning later that month.
