Patriots Rally in second Half to Cage Cobras

With students gone and a small crowd expected, SC head coach J.T. Burton called Saturday’s contest a “scary game”. And the Patriots, after a dismal first half, played like they were scared of a loss by outscoring the Cobras by 16 points after intermission en route to a75-65 win.

“We were very flat the first half,” said Burton whose team trailed 36-30 at the break in the non-conference contest.. “We let them shoot nearly 60 percent in the first half but held them to just 29 points in the second half, and 12 of those points came at the free throw line.”

St. Catharine was led in scoring by DeShawn Mitchell who pitched in 27 points while also grabbing a team high 12 rebounds. Dominique Roy and Terrance Smotherman each scored 10 points.

The Cobras (3-6) were led by Joshua Hart who had 27 points and 15 rebounds.

The Patriots, 3-3, now must get ready for a return to Mid-South Conference action with two home games this week. On Thursday the Tigers from Campbellsville University visit for an 8:00 tip and Saturday, Lindsey Wilson College will come to Lourdes Hall for a 4:00 start. Campbellsville is in the receiving votes category in the NAIA poll and currently holds a 6-1 record. Lindsey Wilson, the defending confernce champ, is ranked 11th nationally and now stands at 7-1.
