Janae Howard Named Mid-South Women's Basketball Player of the WeekFebruary 11, 2013
St. Catharine senior forward Janae Howard has been named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week as announced by conference officials on Monday.
Howard averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds last week while leading the Patriots to home wins over UVA-Wise and Pikeville last week.
The Owensboro, Ky. native nearly averaged a point a minute in St. Catharine’s 69-59 win over UVA-Wise on Thursday. Howard ended the game with 26 points in 27 minutes while adding five rebounds, two assists and two steals. She made 8-of-12 shots from the field, including 4-for-5 from beyond the 3-point arc.
On Saturday, Howard scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Patriots’ 93-64 win over Pikeville. She added two more assists and three steals in the win.
For the week, Howard shot 52 percent (13-of-52) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from three point range. She made 13 of her 15 free throw attempts. Howard is averaging 17.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season.
