Baseball Streak Continues with Road SweepMarch 4, 2013
After seven days off due to weather, the Patriots (12-6) exploded for 24 runs in a double header sweep of Brescia College and Dakota State University in Owensboro, KY. The Pats beat Brescia 10-1 and Dakota State 14-2.
In the opener against Brescia, Patriot starter Eddie Rivera (Anaheim, CA) tossed the first 3 innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit. He tallied 7 K's and walked 3. Andrew Nelson (Eureka, CA) pitched the next 3 innings, giving up no runs on 2 hits. He punched out 3. Cody Alvey (Upton, KY) tossed the final frame, allowing an unearned run. At the plate, the Patriots banged out 14 hits. Eric Standafer (Shelbyville, KY) led the way, going 3-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and a RBI. Jeremy Turpin (Lawrenceburg, KY) went 2-4 with a run and RBI. Joey Andrada (Visalia, CA) added a 2 RBI double and Tyler Mischel (St. Louis, MO) added a solo homerun.
In the nightcap against Dakota State, the Bat Pats exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning on 7 hits and the help of 4 errors. CJ Engelstad (Rohnert Park, CA) and KC Mejia (Vail, AZ) both went 2-2 and scored twice in the inning. Mischel and Andrada both had a 2 RBI single in the inning as well. Josh Whitmer (Taylorsville, KY) went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) added a 2-3 game with a double, RBI and run. Dylan Shoffner (Elizabethtown, KY) tossed the first 2 innings, allowing no runs or hits and tallied 4 K's. Bruce Tolliver (Whittier, CA) pitched the next two, punching out 6 and surrendering a hit. CJ Gant (Louisville, KY) hurled 2 innings, allowing a run on 2 hits and tallied 3 K's and Chase Dial (Shelbyville, TN) pitched the final frame, giving up a run.
The Patriots are schedule to play Tuesday at home against the same two opponents. They also host Union College on Wednesday.
