Bat Pats Walk the Bulldogs in Route to WinMarch 8, 2013
The St. Catharine Patriots (13-6) scored 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning in route to a 9-6 road win at Union College Thursday. The win is the 12th straight for the Pats after losing six straight.
The Patriots only tallied 6 hits on the day, but drew 15 walks from the Bulldog pitching staff. Four of those free bases were in the 7th inning when the Bat Pats erupted for 7 runs. Down 4-2, the Pats drew a bases loaded walk by Jeremy Turpin (Lawrenceburg, KY) to get with in one run, then Trevor Schneider (Louisville, KY) singled in the tying run. The big hit in the inning was a 2 out 2 RBI single by CJ Engelstad (Rohnert Park, CA).
Carlos Hernandez (Fresno, CA) went 2-3 with a RBI, 3 runs and 3 stolen bases. Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) was 1-1 with a double, run and drew 3 walks and a HBP.
Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) started and went 3 innings. He allowed 4 runs - 3 earned. Cody Alvey (Upton, KY) tossed 2 scoreless innings with 2 K's. Cory Klinger (Rushsylvania, OH) picked up the win, going 2 innings and punching out 2 Dogs and Matt Wagner (Brooks, KY) finished the game with 2 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs - striking out the final two Bulldogs to end the game with runners on the corners.
The Patriots are back in action this weekend on Saturday and Sunday for Mid-South Confernce games with UVA-Wise.
