SC Softball Swept at Georgetown

As many games this season have gone, the Patriots trip to Georgetown included two games which they had a good chance of winning, only to have that opportunity slip away. Such was the case Wednesday when the Tigers held on for a 10-8 win in game one and then pulled away late in the second game for a 5-1 win in Mid-South Conference action.

The Patriots (12-10, 4-4) trailed 10-3 entering the seventh inning of game one before rallying for five runs. The tying runs were on base when Ashley Hardin’s ground out squashed the rally to end the game, giving the Tigers (16-8, 8-4) the two-run decision.

The Patriots collected 12 hits with Brandi Hood and Chelcie Rein getting three knocks apiece. Hagan Goldey had two hits and scored two runs.

Ashley Hardin (6-3) was the losing pitcher as she allowed nine runs, seven earned, on 12 hits before exiting with two outs in the fourth inning. Krystal Cammuse gave up one run on four hits in relief.

Wednesday’s second game had Georgetown leading 2-1 entering the sixth inning. But the Tigers added three insurance runs in the sixth frame and held on for the 5-1 win.

Brittany McKee (4-5) took the loss. She pitched four innings, allowing two runs on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Cammuse pitched the final two innings. Two of the three runs she allowed in the sixth were unearned due to two St. Catharine errors.

The Patriots managed just three hits for the game as Goldey, Hood and Shelbi Thornhill had one each. A home run by Goldey to lead off the game provided the Patriots’ only run.
