Blue Raiders Beat the Pats on Walkoff

Patriots lose 4th walkoff of the year

The Patriots lost Friday in the bottom of the ninth inning on a walk-off single by #25 Lindsey Wilson College, 8-7. Leading 7-6 heading into the ninth, Patriot reliever Matt Wagner couldn't hold the Blue Raiders from scoring twice in a game that saw five lead changes.

The Patriots jumped on top in the top of the second inning when Joel Cooper scored on a Josh Whitmer double. The Blue Radiers answered with a solo shot to tie the game off Patriot starter Eddie Rivera. Rivera went 7 innings, scattering 8 hits and striking out 5. He allowed 6 runs, 2 earned in the no decision.

The Bat Pats kept scoring, going up 3-1 in the top of the third, when Carlos Hernandez scored on a KC Mejia error and Adrian Garcia, who went 3-5, knocked in Mejia. LWC answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth, the big shot being a Ozoria 3 run homer. A Patriot error caused just one of those runs to be earned.

The Bat Pats answered back with 3 runs in the top of the sixth, when Tyler Mischel led off the inning with a solo shot to right. Singles by Garcia and Joey Xavier, who had a 3-4 night, set up the next two runs. Garcia scored on a wild pitch and Xavier scored on the Blue Raiders third error of the game to knot the score.

Andrew Nelson tossed two shutout innings of relief, keeping the LWC bats at bay. The Patriots took the lead again in the top of the 8th inning when Xavier doubled and pinch runner Jeremy Turpin scored on a pinch hit single by Trevor Schneider. The Blue Radiers answered in the 9th off Wagner who gave up 2 runs on four hits in a third of a inning.

SC (29-12, 7-6 MSC) will square off again with Lindsey Wilson tomorrow with a DH at 3:00 EST.
