Patriot Men Battle NCAA Division 2 Panthers

The St. Catharine men’s soccer program hit the road Tuesday to travel to NCAA Division 2 Kentucky Wesleyan College.

The Patriots didn’t wait long to show the Panthers that they ready to play, when Ashley Woods (Manchester, England) slammed a ball into the back of the net off of an athletic cross from Joseph Creg (Louisville, Ky.). Following the goal the Patriots increased their defensive intensity and kept the Panthers off of the board for the remainder of the half.

During the second half of play the Patriots were able to maintain their composure, keeping the game within striking distance. With 20 minutes remaining in the game Abdikadir “Nini” Mohamed (Nairobi, Kenya) displayed his athletic ability by scorching a ball on a cross to help Ashley Woods to his second goal of the day. As the time wound down the Patriots defense continued to deny the Panther scorers by causing a total of 11 shots to be off the mark on the day. The up tempo defense allowed the Patriots to have seven corner kicks on the day, outnumbering the Panthers who had five. However, the Panther offense kept the edge, squeaking by the Patriots in the end.

The Patriots will return to the Barber Soccer Complex Saturday to face conference foe Cumberland University at 4 PM.
