Men's Soccer Hosts Rival Georgetown in Pink Out

The St. Catharine Patriots continued their Mid-South Conference trek Friday against the Tigers of Georgetown in their Pink Game for breast cancer awareness.

The Patriots were hungry for a win Friday when the Tigers rolled into town and didn’t waste any time displaying their determination when Sawyer Abshire (Shelbyville, Ky.) was able to find the back of the net off a brilliant assist from Abdikadir “Nini” Mohammed (Nairobi, Kenya) at the 12 minute mark. However, the Patriots had a short lived lead when the Tigers were able to punch a score knotting goal past a leaping CJ Powell (Louisville, Ky.) with 32:08 remaining in the first. Even with the goal, the Patriots continued to apply defensive pressure to the Tigers. Leading the charge for the Patriots was midfielder Kevin Owens (Elizabethtown, Ky.). “Kevin really played well tonight” said Head Coach Tim Wolz. “His intensity kept us in the game all night.”

With the score tied at the half the Patriots were able to revenge an early second half tiger goal when defenseman “Nini” Mohammed struck for his first goal of the season. “I want to be the best player I can be” said Mohammed. “I will do whatever it takes for my team to win.” With time winding down the Patriots continued to pound the net with seven shots on goal. After two quick goals from the Tigers, the Patriots battled to the buzzer, but were unable to find the net.

The Patriots will hit the road October 8th at 7 PM when they travel to Asbury.
