Volleyball Muzzles the Bulldogs

The St. Catharine Volleyball team (15-9, 9-4 MSC) hit the road to face rival Cumberland University (12-15, 3-9 MSC) on Thursday.

After a dominating victory on Wednesday night at Lourdes Hall the Patriots looked to keep pace against the Bulldogs in Lebanon, Tenn. Winning set one in convincing fashion, 25-15, things were looking up for the Patriots. However, set two looked to be a challenge until Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.) was able to tally one of her 10 kills on the night to push the Patriot lead to 24-18. Following untimely errors by the Bulldogs the Patriots were able to settle set two 25-19. Leading 2-0 the Patriots were looking to score their fourth shutout victory in a row and did just that in set three, winning 25-20.

Statistically the Patriots were led by Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) and Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.) with their 10 kills apiece. The 10 kills gave Rebecca Just a season high 31 kill week. Defensively Rebecca Just added to her double digit night by raking in 10 digs along with 12 digs from Randa Murphy (Greensburg, Ky.). On the net the Patriots brought plays to a halt with 12 block assists, keeping the Bulldog offense rattled all night.

The Patriots will hit the road once more October 21 when they face the Tigers of Georgetown (22-7, 11-2 MSC).
