Patriots Split with Eagles and Tigers

The St. Catharine Volleyball Patriots (17-12, 9-7 MSC) aimed to improve their conference standings Thursday night as they traveled to Campbellsville (20-6, 11-4 MSC) to battle the third place Tigers.

Sitting just behind the Tigers in fourth, the Patriots had an opportunity to leapfrog their rivals into third place. However, the Patriots fell just three points short in the fifth set to fall 3-2 to Campbellsville. With a 2-1 lead heading into the third set the Patriots looked to be in control, especially after erasing a large lead in by the Tigers in the first set to come back and win 26-24. Led by Cat Hall (Louisville, Ky.) and her 19 kills the Patriots battled the Tigers to a standstill in the in the third set, until they were able to pull away once more 26-24, taking the 2-1 lead.

The fourth set proved to be a difficult one for the Patriots as Campbellsville came out quickly, taking a 25-12 win. With the game tied the fifth set went back an fourth, seeing both teams take runs at a win. However, even with the 29 digs from Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) and the 14 kills from Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.) the Patriots were unable to get over the hump, dropping the set 15-12.

The Patriots didn’t wait long to get back on track as they hit the road to Midway College Friday night to battle the Eagles. Winning early in the season 3-0 the Patriots were looking to avenge their loss from the night prior. Lead by Allie Southard, Cat Hall, Shauna Stone (Bardstown, Ky.), and Abbey Sorrells the Patriots were able to repeat their early season triumph with yet another 3-0 victory. The win finished off a three game stretch that saw the Patriots in action three out of four nights.

The Patriots will jump back into conference -play November 8th when the travel to the University of Pikeville (14-19, 3-11 MSC) and Bluefield College (5-22, 0-16 MSC).
