Battering the Rams

After an even battle that covered the majority of the contest, the St. Catharine Patriots (4-2, 1-1 MSC) went on a 9-0 run late in the contest to down the Bluefield Rams (1-2, 1-1 MSC) 83-74.

Following a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Pikeville Bears, the Patriots were ready to bounce back quickly. Saturday afternoon the Patriots were able to do just that behind a 47-34 rebounding advantage and 13 forced turnovers. After losing his jersey in the previous contest, Will Bailey (Valley, Ala.) made the most of his #23 debut by racking up, a team high, 22 points as well as 6-6 shooting from the charity stripe. The Patriots controlled the contest for the majority of the night, only trailing by five when the Rams went on a 5-0 run to open the contest. Even with the 19 turnovers the Patriots committed, they were able to control the contest for the majority of the night.

With less than a minute to play the Patriots allowed the Rams to shoot four free throws, all of which were off the mark. The Patriots sunk 72 percent of their free throws on the afternoon, while the Rams only converted on nine of 17 shots from the line.

The Patriots proved that they can be a balanced squad as usual scoring leader Omar Skinner (New Castle, Del.) had, a season low, seven points. The Patriot guard found other ways to stay involved as he found ways to distribute the ball, racking up four assists and allowing others such as Will Tolefree (Stone Mountain, Ga.) to carry the load (20 points).

The Patriots will make their way to Bluefield, following a Thanksgiving hiatus, to battle Robert Morris College (Ill.) and Life University (Ga.) on November 29th and 30th.
