Welch Signs on for Soccer

St. Catharine Women's soccer signed another athlete for the 2014 recruiting class today.  Libby Welch made it official when she signed her scholarship contract.

Libby signed surrounded by family, friends and teammates in the George Rogers Clark High School library this afternoon.  Libby has been a standout midfielder and forward for Coach Matt Abner's Lady Cardinal Soccer teams.  She earned recognition as Most Improved Player her freshman year and she was named Most Valuable Offensive Player her Junior year.  Libby has played club soccer in the spring for the FC Kentucky team coached by Tim Thornberry; also as a midfielder and a forward.

In addition to being a standout on the soccer field, Libby is strong in the classroom.  She is a regular on the honor roll, maintaining a 3.6 GPA.  She was named Honorable Mention Academic All-State as a freshman and First Team Academic All-State her sophomore and junior years.

Patriot Coach Paul Patton, present at the signing stated, "Libby is a solid player and a strong student.  We are excited that she will be joining us next year.  She works hard and has a big upside.  I think she will continue to improve on the field throughout her college career.  She will also be a great representative of the team in the classroom and off the field."
