Men's Soccer Ties At Cumberlands

The Men’s soccer team traveled to Williamsburg, Kentucky to take on The University of the Cumberlands JV team on Thursday. This was the first meeting between these teams this year. Cumberlands defeated SCC twice last season, so we expected a tough game. In the first half, Cumberlands took the initiative and pressured the SCC goal for a long stretch. As the half wore on, and the SCC defense held, SCC began to click more offensively. SCC made several dangerous plays as the game neared half time. However, neither team was able to score and the score at the half was 0-0.

During the second half, SCC played better and better. Unfortunately, in the 55th minute, the SCC defense left a man open on the back side. Cumberlands found him with the ball, and the resulting shot went in for a 1-0 Cumberlands lead. SCC continued to fight, undaunted by the deficit on the scoreboard. The Patriots started to possess the ball for longer and longer periods, and began to put a lot of pressure on the Cumberlands’ goal. In the 78th minute, Will Meza put a pass through to Nick Ho, who slotted away the goal to even the score at 1-1. The last 11 minutes were hard fought, with both teams putting shots on goal and pressuring the opposite defense. No one was able to finish a goal, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
