Soccer Team Wins On The Road

The SCC Patriots soccer team traveled to Hillsboro, Ohio to play the Southern State Community College Patriots on Sunday, October 21. This match-up of Patriot teams looked to be a tough one as Southern State had squeaked by St. Catharine 1-0 at St. Catharine earlier in the season.

The beginning of the first half held true to form as both teams battled for scoring opportunities. St. Catharine had the edge in possession and shots, but both defenses held strong in the early going. Midway through the first half, St. Catharine earned a corner kick and Clint Smith put a dangerous, driven ball into the box. It deflected off a Southern State defender into the goal for a 1-0 St. Catharine lead. Several minutes later, Will Meza capped off a strong dribbling run with a rocket to the upper corner to put St. Catharine up by 2. Shortly thereafter, a Southern State defender was ejected from the game for abusive language during a dead ball. Southern State would play the rest of the game short one player. Just before halftime, another Southern State player was ejected for abusive language, putting Southern State down 2 players for the remainder. Evan Harlow of St. Catharine capped off the first half by controlling a through ball and finishing off the scoring to put SCC up 3-0.

The second half was more of the same, with SCC pressing and Southern State trying to counter-attack with two less players. St. Catharine controlled most of the play and scored 3 more times, with Nick Ho tallying two goals and Evan Harlow putting in his second of the game. St. Catharine went on to win 6-0.
