Baseball MSC Bracket Released

The bracket for the 2014 Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament has been released and the St. Catharine College Patriots are the #3 seed in the tournament. In a season of ups and downs, the Pats are on a current up swing and hope to continue their streak into the tournament that starts Sunday at Egnew Field on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College.

"It's been a roller coaster year," stated Luther Bramblett, the Patriot skipper.  "We finished the regular season strong and feel that we're peaking at the right time of the year in all phases of our game."

The Patriots (25-25, 15-12) will play Bluefield College (32-15, 13-13) the #6 seed in the tournament.  St. Catharine won the series with the Rams on the road, beating them 7-1, 2-0 and losing the final game 5-3.

"We were fortunate to win the series there.  They are a very good club with a strong lineup and three solid arms.  We'll have to be playing very well to beat them again."

The other 2 teams in the bracket at Lindsey Wilson will be #2 seed Cumberland University (35-17, 17-9) and #7 seed Lindsey Wilson College (26-27, 12-14).  The Patriots will play at 4:00est following the #2 - #7 game at 1:00est.  Both losers will play at 7:00 in a elimination game.

The other side of the bracket will begin at Campbellsville University at HIG Field.  #1 seed Georgetown College (38-6, 23-3) will play #8 seed University of the Cumberlands (31-21, 11-15) at 1:00.  The #4 seed Shawnee State University (31-24, 14-12) will play #5 seed Campbellsville University (26-19, 14-12) at 4:00, with the loser bracket game at 7:00.

"The tournament is wide open," noted Bramblett.  "Our league is so balanced this year, anyone of the 8 teams left can win this thing.  It's going to be fun to strap them up and play with the final birth on the line."

The rest of the tournament will be played out Monday through Wednesday at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky at Egnew Field.  Goergetown College has secured the regular season birth into the national tournament and the MSC Tournament winner will earn a bid to the national tournament as well.
