Lady Patriots drop a close one at home

Tuesday, September 2 - The Lady Patriots soccer team hosted Freed Hardeman University on Monday. With the heat in the high 90's and both teams coming off games the day before, the early play was sluggish. In the 38th minute, Stephanie Fields scored to give FHU a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Trailing 1-0, the Lady Patriots came out with renewed energy in the second half and began to pressure the FHU goal. Some solid passing set up a chance that was finished off by Ashley Thompkins to even the score. Unfortunately, the referee disallowed the goal, stating that the FHY goalkeeper had control of the ball before it was kicked in. The score would remain 1-0.

Visibly agitated after the goal was called back, the SCC team had several more chances, but ultimately could not score a goal. A late letdown resulted in another FHU goal and the final result was FHU - 2, SCC - 1. The women's team will next be in action on Friday at home versus Cincinnati Christian University. Game time is 4:00 pm.
