Women's Soccer Reserves Win First Match

Bryce Ashby scores twice.

After two previous matches were postponed due to lightning, the St. Catharine Women's Soccer Reserve Squad finally took to the field for their first match of the season on Thursday.

Hosting Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) in front of a raucous home crowd, the Patriots got off to a slow start as ECTC was able to hold the ball in St. Catharine's half for the first 4 minutes. After that, as the team settled in, the match was all Patriots. Malorie Steele opened up the scoring in the 21st minute with a strike from 21 yards out that skipped off the grass and under the diving hands of the ECTC 'keeper. The patriots made the 1-0 score hold up through the half.

In the second, the Patriots held the ball in the ECTC end for most of the half. Chances at the goal were tough to come by as the ECTC defense worked hard to clear out any dangerous balls. Eighteen minutes in, a high shot rebounded from the ECTC goalies hands and Bryce Ashby pounced on it to slot it in the goal and extend the lead to 2 goals. With 10 minutes remaining, Malorie Steele sent diagonal pass in to Ashby, who struck a shot past the keeper to earn a Brace for the match and set what would be the final score at 3-0.

Jerrica Kidd and Kelsey Givens each played a half in the goal for St. Catharine, allowing no goals and making 2 and 3 saves, respectively. The Patriot Reserves take the field again on Monday, September 15th at Centre College at 5:00pm.
