Patriots down the Grenadiers in three

     Behind an enthusiastic home crowd the Patriots volleyball team (13-4, 1-1 MSC) notched their 13th win of the season in a three sets to none sweep of the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers (3-5, 1-1 KIAC).

     The Patriots got off to a hot start in set number one as they jumped on the Grenadiers early. The Patriots were able to build on their lead throughout the first set as they Grenadiers never were able to recover. The Patriots were able to take the first set going away winning 25-13.

     In the second set the Patriots continued their strong play as they were able to build on early lead as they took the second set 25-18. With the win in set number two the Patriots were able to take a 2-0 lead over the Grenadiers heading into the third set.

     In the third set the two teams battled back and forth throughout the set. The Patriots were able to fend off one set point at 24-23 to pull to a tie at 24-24. The Patriots were able to battle back to take the lead at 26-25. With the Patriots serving match point at 26-25, senior leader Shauna Stone (Bardstown, Ky.) stepped up and got a kill to give the Patriots the third set 27-25 and the match 3-0.

     Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) led Patriot hitters as she tallied 14 kills and hit .393 for the match. Shauna Stone also pitched in 13 kills and led the Patriots in hitting percentage at .632. Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.) also hit over .500 posting a .556 hitting percentage. Jordan Strickland (Lexington, Ky.) returned after missing one game due to injury as she assisted on 41 of the 48 Patriot kills. Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) and Lauren Bowling (Florence, Ky.) posted double digit kills, posting 15 and 11 respectively.

     The volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, September 16 in a big conference match as they host Shawnee State University.
