Men's soccer sweeps MSC weekly honors

The Patriot duo of CJ Powell (Louisville, Ky.) and Ashley Woods (Manchester, England) earned recognition for their hard work they’ve put in on the field.

Powell a senior goalkeeper earned Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Powell notched his first two shutouts of the season. In a Patriots’ win over Asbury University the goalkeeper finished with 3 saves. Powell then continued his strong play into a game against Kentucky Wesleyan University where he stopped five shots from the Panthers. Powell ranks third in the Mid-South and 17th in the NAIA, allowing .50 goals a game. Powell also owns the fourth most saves in the conference this season at 18.

Woods a senior forward finished the week with two goals and an assist. That performance was good enough to earn Woods Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Woods was able to find the back of the net for the first time this season against Asbury. Woods had another strong showing against Kentucky Wesleyan where he netted another goal and an assist.

After his strong performances over the week, Woods moved into a tie for 13th in the Mid-South with five points on the season. With his two goals he moves into a tie for 10th in the Mid-South in goals scored.

The men’s soccer team will be back in action on September 17th when they travel to the University of the Cumberlands.
