SCC Scores 5. Record Goes to 4-2

The St Catharine men's soccer team is on a roll right now.  Yesterday afternoon the team traveled to the University of the Cumberlands and returned hom 5-2 victors.

This is the first time that the St Catharine College Patriots have beated the University of the Cumberland Patriots in the program's history.  The win shows the vast improvement over last year's team and with this win the team has tied the total amount of wins from 2013.

Freshman Max Bristow continued his good form getting SCC on the board first when Goalkeeper CJ Powell hit a goalkick which the UC centre back misplayed.  Bristow ran onto the ball and  finished at the 14:57 mark of the first half.  Seven minutes before half Woods once again found himself on the scoresheet when he followed a shot by Bristow and buried the ball in the back of net.  The score going into halftime was 2-0 in favor of St Catharine.

The University of the Cumberlands came out strong for the second half and scored at the 48:16 mark when Luan Anacieto scored from an assist from Max Aken-Tyers.

The scoring contined when St Catharine All-Time Leading Scorer, Ashley Woods, scored at the 55:59 point of the game.  Joe Jessop intercepted the ball at midfield and played the ball to Marvin Wesselburg for his first goal of the season.  The score was now 4-1.  Ashley Woods received his 2nd assist of the season when he beat an UC defender on the endline and found Brad Wilson for fifth goal of the game for SCC.  Cumberlands scored a late goal on a corner with two minutes remaining to make the final score 5-2.

Ashley Woods continues to be a force for opponents to deal with as he now has 4 goals and 2 assists in this young season.  That takes his career goal scoring total to 33 and his career assist total to 13.  His total point count is also an all time high with 79 points.  The team is also receiving conference recognition as Woods and CJ Powell were named Mid-South Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

"Once again I can't say enough about our team play right now.  The players are coming off the bench and raising the level and the starting 11 are playing as a unit.  It's a lot of fun to be a part of this program right now," Coach Tim Wolz said after the win.

St Catharine College goes to 4-2 on the season and is ranked 2nd in the Mid-South Conference currntly. They travel to Pikeville College on Saturday to make up the game that was scheduled last week. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.  They will once again keep the fans updated on the score on their Facebook page SCC Mens Soccer.  You can also see interviews with the players on their social media Twitter and Facebook pages.
