Woods and Powell repeat

     For the second week in a row Ashley Woods (Manchester, England) and CJ Powell (Louisville, Ky.) swept the Mid-South men’s soccer weekly awards.

     Senior Ashley Woods posted two goals and an assist against the University of the Cumberlands and followed up that performance with a two goal game against Pikeville University. Woods’ performance earned him Mid-South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Woods is tied for second in the Mid-South with six goals on the season. After the nine point week, Woods ranks third in the Mid-South with 14 points on the season.

     CJ Powell a senior goalkeeper turned in another strong week posting 16 saves in two matches last week. Against the University of the Cumberlands, Powell played 82 minutes in goal, recorded 10 saves while only allowing one goal. Then three days later against Pikeville, Powell played all 90 minutes in goal, stopped six shots and allowed only one goal. Powell leads the Mid-South and ranks 16th nationally allowing 0.61 goals a game. Powell ranks third in the Mid-South with 5.6 saves a game.

     The men’s soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Berea College followed by Mid-South Conference game at Cumberland University.
