Patriots swing away at UPIKE

     The Patriot men’s golf team competed in the UPIKE Fall Invitational at Stone Crest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Ky. on Monday and Tuesday.

     The Patriots were led by junior Michael Hardin (Bardstown, Ky.), who shot a two round total of 157 (79-78). Hardin’s 157 earned him a finish in a tie for 13th. Hardin finished two shots back of a top 10 finish.

     Senior leader Matt Bloom (Louisville, Ky.) finished right behind Hardin in a tie for 16th. Bloom shot an 81 in round one, but improved in the second round where he shot a 78. Bloom shot a two day total of 15 over at 159.

     Cole Ballard (Bardstown, Ky.) was also in action at UPIKE where he shot an 86 in round one, but like Bloom, finished strong in the second round where he shot a 76. Aaron Spalding (Springfield, Ky.) and Michael Vuick (Taylorsville, Ky.) also had a strong showing as they both shot a 162.

     The highlight of the tournament for the Patriots came in round one when Shaun Gordon (Radcliff, Ky.), stepped into the tee box on the par three fifth hole with a distance of 125 yards. Gordon swung and the ball took a bounce and rolled in for a hole in one.

     The “Clubbing Patriots” will be back in action on October 13-14 when they compete at the Mid-South Conference Fall Invitational at Maywood Golf Course located in Bardstown, Ky.
