Women's Soccer Falls to #6 Lindsey Wilson

The Patriot women’s soccer team (2-6-1, 1-3 MSC) fell to the number six team in the nation Lindsey Wilson (6-2-2, 3-0 MSC) on Tuesday 5-0.  

The Patriots had a chance to snag the lead in second minute when Courtney Hagedorn (Highland Heights, Ky.) had a shot, but her shot was saved by the Blue Raiders keeper. The Blue Raiders also had a chance in the 13th minute, but both of their shots went off the post. The Patriots' defense stood tall as they were able to hold the Blue Raiders scoreless in the first half. The Blue Raiders continued to push their offense forward as they outshot the Patriots 9-3 in the opening frame.  

Things were much different in the second half. The Blue Raiders scored in the first minute of the second half to take the lead 1-0. The Blue Raiders struck again six minutes later in the 53rd minute when Karin Bernet found the back of the net for her first goal of the day to extend the Blue Raider lead to 2-0. Karin Bernet struck again eight minutes later in the 61st minute off of a rebound to push the lead to 3-0. The Blue Raiders would strike again in the 68th minute as the ball slipped off the keepers hands. The Blue Raiders weren’t done there as they found the back of the net for the fifth time in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick. The Patriots had other opportunities in the final minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net as they fell to the Blue Raiders 5-0. 

The Patriot offense was Courtney Hagedorn and Courtney Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) who each tallied two shots. Hagedorn accounted for the only two shots on goal for the Patriots. The Patriot goalkeeper Emily Belt (Paducah, Ky.) did her best to keep the Blue Raiders high powered offense at bay as she made nine saves in 90 minutes in goal. The Blue Raiders were clearly the more aggressive team on offense as they outshot the Patriots 20-5 for the match.  

 The Patriots will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Georgetown, Ky. to battle archrival Georgetown College in a Mid-South Conference showdown.
