Midway Eagles Soar Past Patriots

Box Score

Lena Bramblett knew her young team may struggle early this season. And that concern manifested itself in the season opener Thursday as her St. Catharine College Patriots fell 64-57 at Midway College.

“We actually played well but we just have to mature and learn how to react in close games,” said Bramblett. “At one time I looked out and realized that we had four players on the court who had never played college basketball.”

St. Catharine led 33-24 at the break but was outscored 40-24 in the second half. A big factor in the loss came on the boards where the eagles grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and held a 45-40 advantage overall.

“We did get a lift from Brooke (Gee) who came off the bench to get six points and six rebounds,” added Bramblett. Miranda Wilson, a freshman from Corbin, Ky., paced the Patriots with 15 points.

Bramblett will have a chance to get some needed game experience for her young team at no expense to the win/loss record. On Saturday the Patriots travel to NCAA D-I Austin Peay for an exhibition game. Then on Tuesday they host West Virginia State University, A NCAA D-II program in a scrimmage game
