Patriots fall to the Blue Raiders

     The Patriot volleyball team (28-10, 10-4 MSC) took their three game winning streak on the road last night against the number nine team in the country, the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders (30-2, 14-0).

     The Patriots put themselves behind the eight-ball early as they fell behind 10-2. The Patriots, however, embarked on a 19-8 run to take the lead at 21-18. The Patriots served set point at 24-22, but were unable to put the Blue Raiders away as they took the opening set 27-25.

     The Blue Raiders forced the Patriots to call a timeout after they jumped on the Patriots early at 8-2. The Patriots were forced to call another timeout when they trailed at 16-6. The Patriots would battle until the end, but the Blue Raider offense proved to be too much as they won the set 25-15.

     The third set saw the Patriots grab the early lead at 8-7. The Patriots would take their largest lead of the set at 13-7 on the heels of a 5-0 run. The Blue Raiders would battle back to tie the set at 24 apiece, but after a kill by Jessie Stone (Princeton, Ky.) and an error on the Blue Raiders the third set belonged to the Patriots 26-24.

     The fourth set was dominated by the Blue Raiders as they grabbed the early lead 10-3. The Blue Raiders then doubled the Patriots up on a 10-5 run to take the lead at 20-8. The Patriots answered with a 7-2 run to pull within seven at 22-15, but the Blue Raiders would put the Patriots away for good with three straight to win the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.

     Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) led the Patriot hitters with 15 kills and a .281 hitting percentage. Just also pitched in with 15 digs. Jordan Strickland (Lexington, Ky.) paced the Patriots with 43 assists and 11 digs on the night. The Patriots had a tough time stopping Yennifer Ramirez, who tallied 35 kills for the match.

     The Patriots now gear up for the Mid-South Conference Tournament at Campbellsville University where they will enter as the three seed. They are still unsure on who they will play in the quarterfinals, but their first match will be on Friday, November 14th at 6 PM (EST).
