Carman named MSC Wrestler of the Week

BJ Carman, a freshman from New Haven, Ky., was named Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday for the first time in his career. The award is the first in the history of the Patriot wrestling program.

Carman posted a 3-1 record at the Warrior Duals at Indiana Tech University in Fort Wayne, Ind. With the 3-1 record, Carman moves to 11-6 on the season.

He suffered his only loss in his opening match to fourth-ranked Great Falls’ (Mont.) Sam Voigtlaender in an 11-8 decision. Carmen earned a 7-4 decision win against Andrew Mahone from Missouri Baptist. Mahone came into the match ranked 16th in the NAIA at 197. Carman then scored a pin against Embry-Riddle’s (Ariz.) Mitchell Major. Carman finished off his three win weekend with a 4-3 decision over Baker’s (Kan.) William Leone – who was ranked 12th in the nation in 197.

“We knew BJ was good, but this weekend he went out and proved it to everybody,” noted head coach Spencer Adams. “It is a great honor for BJ to be the first to win it in the program’s history.”
