Brandon Bobb JonesBrandon Bobb Jones' basket at the buzzer gave the Patriots the victory Saturday.

Life is short, by two points, as Patriots win with buzzer beater.

One never knows what they will get out of Life and that axiom was never more true than when the Mid-South conference opponent carrying that name, Life University, visited Lourdes Hall Saturday afternoon. Matt Taylor's Patriots led the first 23 minutes of the game only to see the Running Eagles rally to lead by as many as 16 points in the second half. But the final outcome took the life out of the visitors when the Patriots scored at the final buzzer for an 86-84 win.

After taking a 41-36 lead at the intermission the Patriots (6-10, 2-4) went cold in the second half as Life took the lead two minutes into the second half and led 67-51 with 9:32 to play. But a 28-12 St. Catharine run tied the game at 79 with 2:29 remaining. Life regained the lead and held an 84-81 advantage until Ben Vozzola (Las Vegas, Nev.) canned a trey with 37 seconds left to tie the game. It looked like the Running Eagles (9-7, 3-3) would get the last shot of the game but an offensive foul negated that chance and the Patriots would work for the final shot instead. That looked to also come from Vozzola who heaved up a 40 footer that was off the mark. But Brandon Bobb Jones (Wilmington, Del.) got the offensive board and dropped in the game winner at the final horn.

Vozzola led the Patriots with 19 points to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Khalil Murphy (Willingboro, N.J.) had 18 points and Jones added 10. St. Catharine won the rebounding battle 49-38.

The Patriots are back in Mid-South Conference action Thursday with a game at Shawnee State followed by another MSC showdown Saturday at Georgetown.
