Track and Field opens season at Wabash

     The Patriots opened up their indoor track and field schedule in the Robert H. Johnson Little Giant Invitational over the weekend. The event was held at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind.

     Shaun Gordon (Radcliff, Ky.) led the Patriots when he scored a first place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 12.66 meters (41’ 6.50”). This is the second year in a row that Gordon has opened up the season with a victory. Gordon was also in action on the running side where he competed in the 200 meters, he finished with a time of 25.85. Gordon was also in action in the 400 meters where he finished with a time of 56.90, good enough for a fifth place finish.

     Brandon Price (Bardstown, Ky.) was in action in the 800 meters where he finished with a time of 2:07.44, good enough for a 13th place finish out of 27 competitors. Price finished less than a second out of a top-10 finish.

     The Patriot throwers were also in action at Wabash. Andrew Martin (Louisville, Ky.) was in action in the shot put, where he finished with a distance of 10.96 meters (35’ 11.50”). Kameron Lackey (Bardstown, Ky.), fared a bit better than his counterpart, finishing with a distance of 11.92 meters (39” 1.25”). Lackey’s distance was good enough for a sixth place finish.

     The Patriot women were also in action at Wabash. On the women’s side, Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) competed in the long jump where she finished with a distance of 4.28 meters (14’ 0.50”). Just finished in fifth place, the winner finished with a distance of 5.35 meters. Just was also in action on the running side where she competed in the 200 meters. She finished in 11th place with a time of 32.16 seconds, less than a second off a top-10 finish.

     Haley Greenwell (Frankfort, Ky.) was also in action in the 200 meters where she finished right behind her teammate, Just. Greenwell finished with a time of 32.36 and like Just, she was two seconds off a top-10 finish. Nicole Schowalter (Dayton, Ky.) competed in the one mile run, where she finished with a time 6:27.35.

     The track team will return to Indiana this weekend to compete in the IWU Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University located in Marion, Ind.
