RedHawks soar past the Patriots

The Patriot women’s basketball team (8-13) have been playing a brutal schedule as of late playing three straight road games against ranked opponents. It didn’t get any easier when they traveled on #23 Martin Methodist University on Tuesday.

The RedHawks (17-4) forced the Patriots into 21 turnovers while knocking down 10 3’s to down the Patriots, 76-52. The Patriots connected on seven 3’s, but they couldn’t match the RedHawks balanced scoring. Cora Moore (Louisville, Ky.) was the only Patriot to score in double figures with 14 points.

Moore kicked the game off with a trey, but that proved to be the only time the Patriots would lead in the contest. The home team then responded with a 14-2 run to take a nine point advantage with 12:49 remaining in the half. The Patriots cut the lead to five, 14-9, but over the final 11:24 the RedHawks outscored the Patriots 29-10 to take a 43-19 lead into the break.

The final 20 minutes was dominated by the home team leading by as many as 32. The Patriots, however, never quit as they chipped away to get the deficit to 21. The home team prevailed in the end with a 76-52 victory.

Lena Bramblett’s squad will to rebound this weekend when they host the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University on Saturday at 2 PM.
