Patriot Grapplers tangle with Cumberlands and Cumberland

     The Patriot wrestlers were in action on Tuesday night when they hosted the University of the Cumberlands and Cumberland University in a Mid-South Conference tri-meet.

     St. Catharine first took on the others Patriots in the Mid-South, Cumberlands. Cumberlands took a 15-0 lead after winning the first three weight classes by technical fall, major decision and by pin. Cody Coomes (Ostrander, Ohio) turned things around for SCC in the 149 weight class when he picked up a pin at 2:43. The two teams split the 157 and 165 weight classes. Bernard Ray (Hodgenville, Ky.) picked up three points to cut the lead to 19-15 when he earned a 10-4 decision win in the 174 weight class. The only other win for St. Catharine came in the 197 division when BJ Carman (New Haven, Ky.) picked up a 6-1 decision. Cumberlands went on to defeat St. Catharine, 25-18.

     The Patriots then had little time to lick their wounds as they had to get ready for Cumberland. The Patriots picked up two wins against the Bulldogs. The first came in the 133 when Andrew Lenz (Cynthiana, Ky.) when he won by forfeit. BJ Carman picked up the only other win for the Patriots by a technical fall in the 197 division.

     The “Grappling Patriots” will return to action on Tuesday, February 3rd, when they travel to Columbia, Ky. to battle Lindsey Wilson College.
