Carman receives National Honor

BJ Carman continues to rack up the honors for his performance on the wrestling mat. For the second time this season he was named Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week, but to go along with the conference award, Carman was also named NAIA National Wrestler of the Week.

“We’ve had conference players of the week before, but I don’t think we’ve ever had a national player of the week since we joined the NAIA,” stated Athletic Director Tom Bystrek. “It is a huge honor for a first year program to receive a national honor like that.”

Carman was first named Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, it was announced by the national office that Carman was named NAIA National Wrestler of the Week for his performances from Feb. 9-15. It was the final weekly award of the 2015 season.

The New Haven, Ky. native picked up two wins last week – both via pin. His first win came against Lindsey Wilson’s Elliot Porter at the 197-pound match in two minutes and 39 seconds to claim six of the Patriots’ 10 points in the 36-10 loss. He picked up his second win of the week when he pinned Lindenwood-Belleville’s Ryan MacGeorge at 5:43. His win against MacGeorge helped the Patriots pick up a 27-21 win.

Carman moves to 24-9 on the season after his two-win week.
