Ballard leads “Clubbing Patriots" at St. Augustine

     The Patriot men’s golf team recently took their swings to St. Augustine, Fla. to open up their spring season as they competed in the Georgetown College Invitational at the World Golf Slammer & Squire Golf Course.

     Cole Ballard (Bardstown, Ky.) led the way for the Patriots as he finished with a two-round total of 153 (77-76). Ballard’s 153 was good enough for a fourth place finish out of 40 competitors. The winner in the event finished with a two day total of 148. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Tournament team.

     Michael Hardin (Bloomfield, Ky.) also had a strong performance posting a two day total of 162. Hardin finished with an 80 on the first day and an 82 in the second round. Hardin finished in a tie for 11th place.

     Granville Hayes (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) and Matt Bloom (Louisville, Ky.) also started their spring season on the right foot. Hayes and Bloom each finished with a two round total of 165. Bloom recovered from an 85 in the opening round as he finished with an 80 in the final round. Hayes and Bloom finished in a tie for 16th place.

     Will Broady (Greenville, Ky.) and Aaron Spalding (Springfield, Ky.) finished the tournament with a 166 and 170, respectively. Broady shot an 86 in the first round, but recovered and finished with an 80 in the final round. Broady finished in a tie for 19th. Spalding on the other hand, started off strong shooting an 82 in the opening round, but didn’t fare as well in the second round shooting an 86.

     As a team the Patriots finished in third place out of five teams. The team shot a 324 in the first round, but finished on a high note with a 318. The eventual winner in the event, Emmanuel College (Ga.), finished with a two-round total of 617.

     The Patriots will return to action on March 30-31 when they compete in the Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Ky.
