St. Catharine (15-7, 5-1) won their weekend series against defending NAIA National Champions Cumberland University. The Patriots won 3-0 and 6-3 on Saturday to sweep the DH and lost today 7-3 in the finale. The series win keeps the Pats in first place after the second weekend of play in the Mid-South Conference.

SC 3 - CU 0
Senior hurler John Werner (Anaheim, CA) tossed his sixth quality start in as many outings, going 9 innings for the 3 hit CG shutout. Werner allowed 1 walk and just 1 base runner reached 3rd base, while punching out 6 Bulldogs. He moved to 5-1 on the year.

The Patriots jumped on starter Stevie Smith early when Santiago Arce (Chula Vista, CA) singled home both Cody Kollenberg (PeeWee Valley, KY) and Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) in the bottom of the 1st inning with 2 outs. Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) added to the lead with a solo shot to right in the 3rd. That was it for the scoring for both teams.

Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) went 2-4 and Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) added a 1-3 game with a double.

SC 6 - CU 3
Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA) picked up his 3rd win of the year, tossing his second consecutive CG. Borkowski went 7 innings, scattering 5 hits and tallied 7 K's. He allowed 3 runs and retired the final 9 batters he faced.

CU jumped on board with a run in the 1st and the Patriots stole it back in the 3rd when Josh Wenning (Palmyra, IN) singled and move to 3rd on a Drew Kissel single. Lamont Calloway (Louisville, KY) stole second and the catchers throw went into center field allowing Wenning to score.

In the 4th inning, the Patriots got to starter Jake Collier, Santiago Arce doubled and scored on a Francisco Gonzalez double. Patriot DH Tyler Devine (Harrodsburg, KY) then deposited a pitch into a front yard for his first career homerun scoring Gonzalez.

In a 1 run game, the Patriot bats tallied 2 runs in the top of the 7th when Harold Diaz walked and stole second and scored on a Dominique Guevara (Oxnard, CA) single. Calloway again used his speed, scoring on another Gonzalez double.

Gonzalez went 3-4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI's and a run. Devine went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and a run and Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, DR) added a 2-3 game.
