Baseball Holds on to Beat IUSE

St. Catharine (16-7) scored early and often and held on late for a (8-6) road win at Indiana University Southeast Tuesday night in rainy conditions.

The Patriots scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st when Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) and Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) singled and scored on a Santiago Arce (Chula Vista, CA) single. SC pushed the lead to 3 in the 2nd when Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) walked and came around to score on a Josh Wenning (Palmyra, IN) sac fly.

In the 4th the Patriots exploded for 4 runs on 3 hits and 3 free bases. Francisco Gonzalez walked with bases loaded to drive in a run and Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, DR) had a sac fly to plate another run. Alfredo Bohorquez knocked in a run with a base knock and later stole home on a double steal.

The Grenadiers scored 3 runs in the 5th off of starter Conner Lindsay (Nicholasville, KY). Lindsay went 4.1 innings allowing those 3 runs on 4 walks and scattered 5 hits. Nathan Getzin (Louisville, KY) relieved Lindsay to get out of the 5th and tossed a scoreless 6th to pick up the win.

The Patriots scored an insurance run in the top of the 7th when Alfredo Bohorquez reached on a error, stole 2nd and later scored on a double play.

Omar Hernandez (Fresno, CA) came in and tossed 3 innings picking up the save. After tossing 2 scoreless innings, IUSE staged a 2 out rally in the bottom of the 9th. The Grenadiers put together 5 straight 2 out hits to plate 3 runs and had the tying run at 2nd base.

Bohorquez went 3-4 with 3 runs and 4 swipes and a RBI. Arce went 3-6 with a run and 2 RBI's. Wenning added a 2-4 night with a run and a RBI. Gonzalez reached base 4 times, going 1-2 with a run and RBI.

The Patriots play again Wednesday at Kentucky State University at 3:00.
