Patriots Split with the Tigers, But Win Series

St. Catharine (19-8, 7-2 MSC) split a double header with visiting Georgetown College (6-11, 4-5 MSC) Sunday afternoon, winning 13-3 and losing 7-5. The split drops the Patriots into a 1st place tie with both Campbellsville University and Lindsey Wilson College in the Mid-South standings.

SC 13 - GC 3

The Patriot bats exploded for 16 hits in the opener in route to the series winning 10-run rule. The Bat Pats scored in 6 of the 8 innings played. Santiago Arce (Chula Vista, CA) led the Pats going 4-5 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs with a double. Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) added a 3-5 game with 3 RBI's. Tyler Devine (Harrodsburg, KY) went 2-3 with a RBI and 2 runs and Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) added a 2 hit game and scored twice and had a stolen base. Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) chipped in a solo bomb over the right field fence.

Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA) tossed a complete game, scattering 7 hits. He gave up 3 runs, 2 earned and punched out 8 Tigers. Borkowski moves to (4-2) on the season.

GC 7 - SC 5

In the nightcap, Georgetown scored a 2 runs in the 3rd inning an never looked back to earn the split. The Patriots made it interesting, getting within a run in the 3rd and 5th innings and then leaving the bases loaded in the 7th for the final tally.

Daniel Lerma (Oxnard, CA) started and went 4 innings. He allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits and tallied 2 K's. Omar Hernandez (Fresno, CA) tossed 1 inning and allowed a hit with 2 K's. Tyler Jones (Huntington Beach, CA) tossed 1 inning plus, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. And, James Davenport (Louisville, KY) entered with bases loaded - no outs and got out of the jam with a strikeout and double play ground out to give the Pats a chance in the 7th.

Drew Kissel led the Patriots at the dish, going 2-3 with 2 RBI's and a double. Alfredo Bohorquez went 2-2 with a run and a triple and Josh Wenning (Palmyra, IN) added a 2-3 game with a run. Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) went 1-2 with a run and 2 RBI's.

St. Catharine is back in action Tuesday hosting Oakland City University.
