Cornett makes School History at Stone Crest

The Patriot women’s golf team was recently in action for the Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational at Stone Crest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Ky.

Brianna Cornett made school history for posting the best back-to-back rounds in the program’s history. The sophomore from Danville, Ky. shot an 85 in the opening round and she followed that up with an 84 in the second round. Cornett finished the event in a tie for 20th.

According to Patriot Golf coach, Joan Rizer, it’s something that she saw coming, “She has been working hard in between tournament and her hard work is beginning to pay off. I am just so proud of her.”

Cornett spoke of her achievement saying, “I just got into a zone and everything was coming together. My swing was on key both days and everything just started to come together.” She also noted saying, “These are two of the best rounds that I have shot in my collegiate career.”

When asked how she felt going back out for the second round Cornett responded, “I felt pretty good both days. I wasn’t really nervous, I just went out and trusted myself to play the way I did in the first round.”

Cornett and the rest of the Patriot golf team will have a chance to fine tune their skills as they get ready for the Mid-South Conference Tournament that begins on April 19th.
