Bat Pats Bite the Bulldogs Twice

St. Catharine College (29-13) took to the road again, this time visiting Union College (28-15) in a matchup of programs both receiving votes for the NAIA top 25 poll. The Patriots came out with two wins, taking the opener 13-10 and the nightcap 8-5.

SC 13 - UC 10

The Patriots jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 2 innings, only to see the Bulldogs claw their way back to knot the game at 7 apiece in the 4th. SC jumped back ahead with 3 in the 5th with the big blow coming off the bat of Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) who doubled home 2. UC tied it up in the bottom half of the 5th and the Patriots jumped ahead with 3 runs in the top of the 7th to close out the scoring.

Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) led the Patriots in the opener, going 2-2 with 3 RBI's, a double and 2 runs. Drew Kissel went 2-3 with a double and 4 RBI's. Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) added a 2-3 game with 3 RBI's and Josh Wenning (Palmyra, IN) went 2-4 with 2 runs. The Patriots drew 12 base on balls and a HBP from the Bulldogs along with 9 base knocks.

Conner Lindsay (Nicholasville, KY) started and tossed 4 innings. He allowed 9 runs (7 earned) on 11 hits. Austin Willis-Greene (Manhattan, NY) picked up the win in relief, going 3 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits.

SC 8 - UC 5

The Patriot bats stayed hot, jumping out to a 7-3 lead after the first 2 innings. The Patriot sticks pounded out 11 hits and another 6 free bases to pressure the Bulldogs all game. Harold Diaz went 4-4 with a double, a run and RBI. Drew Kissel went 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI's. Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) went 1-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI's. Both Francisco Gonzalez and Dominique Guevara (Oxnard, CA) had base knocks and a RBI.

Derek Jones (Mt. Washington, KY) started and picked up the win. He tossed 4 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. Nathan Getzin (Louisville, KY) picked up the save, tossing the final 3 frames. He allowed 0 runs on 0 hits, punching out 2 and walking 1.

St. Catharine is back in action for the final regular season series this Thursday and Friday, hosting the University of the Cumberlands. The Patriots will play at 3:00 Thursday (1-9) and a DH on Friday staring at 12:00.
