Hyman Takes Reins of SC Volleyball

St. Catharine, Ky. – Lauryn Hyman has quickly moved up in the coaching ranks at St. Catharine College. After just one season as the Patriot assistant volleyball coach, the Louisville native was named last week as the head coach for the 2015 season.

“Lauryn comes in this season as the interim coach,” explained St. Catharine athletic director Tom Bystrek. “The timing of the coaching change did not allow for an extensive search and Lauryn is excited to have the opportunity to lead the program this fall. We will revisit the situation after the season but I am confident that Lauryn will do an excellent job this year.”

Even though Hyman doesn’t necessarily have head coaching experience, she won’t lack coaching experience. She brings years of coaching experience to the Patriots at both the club and high school levels.

Hyman began her coaching career at the Kentucky Indiana Volleyball Academy (KIVA) where she coached for two seasons. After spending two season with KIVA, Hyman made the move to the MidAmerica Volleyball Association (MAVA) where she coached from 2010-13.

After spending five seasons coaching at the club level, Hyman made the move to the high school ranks. She began coaching high school in the 2013-14 season when she served as an assistant coach at Mercy Academy in Louisville, Ky. During her single season at Mercy, the team finished with a 38-2 record

"I would like to thank our Athletic Director, Tom Bystrek and our President, Dr. Cindy Gnadinger for the opportunity they have given me,” noted Hyman. “As a former collegiate athlete, I know what it takes to have a successful program and I am looking forward to bringing fresh and innovative ideas to the St. Catharine Volleyball program. I strive to create a positive environment while motivating these young women on and off the court.”
