Volleyball closes out LWC Classic Undefeated

Columbia, Ky. – Just two days after going 2-0 on the opening day of the Lindsey Wilson College Volleyball Classic, the Patriot volleyball team was back in Columbia, Ky. for the second day of the tournament.

The Patriots finished Saturday with a 2-0 record after recording sweeps over Asbury (Ky.) and Northwestern Ohio. With the two wins on Saturday, the Patriots completed the LWC Classic with a perfect 4-0 record.

After starting the season 0-3, the Patriots have reeled off seven wins in a row to move to 7-3 on the season. St. Catharine will put their seven game winning streak on the line this Tuesday when they open Mid-South Conference play at home against Pikeville (Ky.) at 7 p.m. EST.

In their first match on Saturday the Patriots battled the Eagles of Asbury University. The two teams faced off just three days ago where the Eagles (5-4) nearly pulled the upset, but the Patriots won 3-2. This time is was the same result just a different score. This time is was the Patriots who came away with a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 26-24, and 25-13).

Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) led the Patriot hitters with 11 kills and .357 hitting percentage. Just also pitched in on defense with 11 digs. Mikaela Beck (Detroit, Mich.) added nine kills while Jessie Stone (Fredonia, Ky.) added a .462 attacking percentage.

Jordan Strickland (Lexington, Ky.) and Maja Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) did a solid job of running the offense combining for 26 of the Patriots 30 assists in the win. Krstonosic also pitched in with seven kills on eight attacks with zero errors.

In their second game of the day, St. Catharine was matched up against Northwestern Ohio. St. Catharine got off to a good start hitting .429 in the opening set that they won 25-16. The Patriots continued their strong play into the second third winning both sets 25-21 and 25-19, respectively.

Once again it was Rebecca Just leading the offense with 16 kills and an attacking percentage of .353. Mikaela Beck and Cat Hall (Louisville, Ky.) each added 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Strickland and Krstonosic each combined for 38 assists. In the two victories Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) had a combined 22 digs.
