Werner Promoted to AA Frisco RoughRiders

Former Patriot pitcher John Werner is on the move again, this time to the Texas League with the AA Frisco RoughRiders. Werner was with the single A Hickory Crawdads for less than a month before the move up.

"What a month for John," stated Patriot Coach Luther Bramblett. "We're extremely excited for his progress so far. It's really amazing that he's moved up so quick and we're really proud and happy for him."

Werner appeared in 5 games for the Crawdads, with a start last week. In that start, he tossed 5 shutout innings with 6 K's and 0 walks. He lowered his single A ERA to 2.65 in the process. In 17 innings, he punched out 19 batters and opponents were batting .230 off of him and his WHIP was 1.18.

In the Arizona Rookie League, Werner appeared in 8 games with 5 starts and he tossed 26 innings. In those, he punched out 36 hitters and opponents were batting .271. He had an ERA of 3.46 and a WHIP of 1.26.

Werner was the Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year this spring. He helped lead the Patriots to a 38-17 record, a national ranking and an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. He went 9-2 with a 1.48 ERA while striking out 111 hitters. He was taken in the 32nd round of the MLB draft this summer.
