Patriot Volleyball falls to No. 5 Lindsey Wilson

Columbia, Ky. – The Patriot volleyball (12-6, 2-3 MSC) team saw their three-match win streak come to an end last night after a 3-1 defeat on the road against fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).

Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) led the way with 16 kills in 33 swings for a .394 hitting clip. Just also chipped in on defense with 13 digs. Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) was the only other Patriot to tally double-digit digs with 11. Cat Hall (Louisville, Ky.) added 11 kills for the offense. Jordan Strickland (Lexington, Ky.) guided the Patriot offense with 37 assists.

The Blue Raiders (14-3, 4-1 MSC) controlled the net all night forcing the Patriots into a .145 attacking percentage – their third worst on the season. Lindsey Wilson on the other had tallied a .360 hitting percentage, while also recoding 22 block assists.

In the opening set the two teams battled for the opening points, but it was the Blue Raiders that grabbed the 14-9 lead. From that point on Lindsey Wilson took control with an 11-0 run to win the opening set 25-9.

The second set turned out much better for the Patriots. St. Catharine tallied their best hitting clip of the four sets at .289 while they also held the Blue Raiders to a .279 attacking percentage.

Early on in the set it was the Patriots that grabbed an early 6-4 lead, but after a 5-0 run from the Blue Raiders they regained the lead 9-6. St. Catharine took the lead back after responding with a 4-0 run of their own. From that point on the teams traded point until the Patriots took a 23-21 lead. Lindsey Wilson battled back and pulled within one, but the Patriots closed the set out winning 25-23.

The third set saw the Patriots battle back within one at 12-11, but the Blue Raiders responded with a 4-0 run to take a 16-11 lead. St. Catharine responded with a 5-2 run to come within two, but Lindsey Wilson came back to win the set 25-20.

The fourth and final set turned out like the first set where the Blue Raiders controlled from the opening serve. The Patriots scored the opening point, but never regained the lead as the Blue Raiders won the set 25-13 and the match 3-1.

St. Catharine returns to the court tomorrow night when they travel to Lebanon, Tenn. to face Cumberland (Tenn.) in a Mid-South Conference matchup at 7 p.m. ET.
